Traveling To Abilene

Abilene is located on I-70 approximately 150 miles west of Kansas City and 90 miles north of Wichita on K-15. The Eisenhower Library is located about 2 miles south of I-70 on K-15. The complex consists of five buildings located on 22 acres. They include the Family Home, Museum, Library, Place of Meditation, and Visitors Center.

Cities along major interstate highway systems include I-70 Salina, Kansas 25 miles West; Junction City, Kansas 25 miles East; Manhattan, Kansas 43 miles East; Topeka, Kansas 88 miles East; Lawrence, Kansas 115 miles East; Kansas City, Missouri miles East; interstate highway I-35 / I-70 Newton, Kansas 90 miles South; Wichita, Kansas 122 miles South. (Milage is approximate based on airports where available.)

HOW DO I GET TO ABILENE?

AUTOMOBILE:

The easiest way to get to Abilene is by automobile. We are located at Exit 275 on I-70 and K-15.

PLANE:

There is no air service into Abilene. We recommend that you fly into Kansas City International Airport. Another option is to fly into Wichita Mid-Continent Airport, 90 miles south of Abilene. You would then need to rent a car or take a bus to Abilene. Please contact Greyhound at 800-231-2222 for bus schedules.

You may also take a van shuttle service from the Kansas City airport to Junction City, Kansas, which is 20 miles east of Abilene. This service is provided by two companies, Travelers Express (1-800-747-2KCI) and KCI Roadrunner (1-800-826-8294). From Junction City you can take a taxi to Abilene. Your place of accommodation may also assist you with travel arrangements. Please inquire directly with your place of lodging regarding any such service.

You may also choose to fly into the Manhattan, or Salina, Kansas airports. Manhattan is 40 miles east of Abilene and Salina is 30 miles west. You will need to then take a taxi from Manhattan or rent a car.

BUS:

Currently, there is no bus service into Abilene. For details on fares and schedules, to neighboring cities (suggestions: Salina, Kansas; Junction City, Kansas; Manhattan, Kansas) please contact Greyhound at 800-231-2222.

 

AMTRAK:

There is no train service into Abilene. AMTRAK has stations East of Abilene in Lawrence, KS (LRC); Topeka, KS (TOP); Kansas City, MO (KCY); South of Abilene in Hutchinson, KS (HUT) and Newton, KS (NEW). AMTRAK Homepage

 

TAXI:

In-town Transportation services are offered by OCCK Inc., 409 NW 3rd Street Abilene, Kansas 1-800-526-9731. There is no out of-town taxi service. However, you may locate a taxi service utilizing online directory services such as Switchboard, or Free411.com. Taxi service is available from Salina, Kansas (24 miles west of Abilene) or Junction City, Kansas (24 miles east of Abilene).

Parking

Parking is free. Spaces available for tour buses and recreational vehicles.

Accessibility

The Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum is fully handicapped accessible. Wheelchairs are available upon request.

The Visitors Center orientation film is closed-captioned for the hearing impaired. A tour of the Boyhood home is available for the hearing impaired. A braille brochure is available for the Museum's Introductory Gallery. The First Ladies, Military and Presidential Galleries all have captioned segments on video.
