PRESIDENTIAL GALLERY ON-LINE EXHIBIT
The Dwight D. Eisenhower Library is pleased to announce the "opening" of a new on-line exhibit on its web site. Internet users may view the innovative on-line Eisenhower Presidential Gallery at: http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/exhibit/.
The concept for the exhibit began at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in early December 2002. NARA is the parent agency for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library. Eisenhower Library staff members Kim Barbieri, Barbara Constable, Dennis Medina and Hazel Stitt worked with project manager, Sarah Araghi (NARA) and contract designer, Theo Welch, to create a "virtual tour" of the new Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Gallery and Reader's Digest Foundation Educational Learning Center. Roll-out for the exhibit was on April 4.
According to Eisenhower Center Director Dan Holt, "The on-line virtual tour provides a great visual overview of this outstanding new presidential gallery, and we think it will encourage web visitors to see it in person. Also, viewers from overseas who cannot visit the museum will at least have an excellent introduction to this exciting exhibit."
The exhibit covers the life and times of Dwight D. Eisenhower from the end of World War II to his death in March 1969. Viewers will read textual information about Dwight Eisenhower's careers as Army Chief of Staff, first NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Commander, president of Columbia University and 34th President of the United States. In addition, there are over 30 images from these 24 years in areas such as civil rights, personal liberties, the "American Dream," life in the White House, personal diplomacy, and the post-presidential "Twilight Years."
